A complete renovation of one of the biggest churches in the San Jose Diocese

Seating nearly 700 people, The Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish Church serves the Willow Glen and the San José communities. Built in the 1930s, the remodel touched almost every aspect of the church, modernizing it while maintaining its historic charm and addressing circulation issues. Replacing the carpeting with Brazilian hardwood floors and the altar with Italian marble gave a more authentic and honest feel. New lighting and updated finishes increased the appeal and function of the spaces. The design team worked with the arts and environment committee of the diocese to update niches and bring new statuary. Throughout the project, the community provided input on materials and plans. When the final project, brought in under budget, was presented to them, feedback was overwhelmingly positive and supportive.
