A San Jose urban rejuvenation project

Commissioned by the San Jose Downtown Association, SoFA Pocket Park is an urban rejuvenation project with a demonstration garden and dog park. Partnering with Veggielution and Local Color, an empty industrial lot was converted into a beautiful and educational meeting spot for the neighborhood. The new urban demonstration kitchen and garden have examples of food growing, sustainable gardening, composting, and water conservation. Vegetables produced there and from Veggielution’s plot at Emma Prusch Farm are used for cooking demonstrations. The park is a mobile food truck hub and a dog park. In collaboration with Local Color and the Quilt Museum, local artists livened up the walls of the surrounding buildings with painted murals. The new space has revitalized the neighborhood and become an asset to the city.
