Architecture for Complex, Fast-Moving Technical Environments
TOPA Architecture works with technology and R&D companies throughout Silicon Valley and the Bay Area on new facilities, tenant improvements, renovations, expansions, and technically complex projects. We help clients evaluate existing spaces, coordinate consultants and equipment requirements, and move projects from early planning through permitting and construction.
Technology + R&D Experience
TOPA’s technology and R&D experience includes EV facilities, with work in R&D environments, operations support spaces, and laboratory programming and layout; and data infrastructure, including data halls, cooling towers and supporting infrastructure, as well as laboratory programming and layout.
Both require close coordination of technical systems, equipment, operational needs, and the facility itself from early in the design process.
Feasibility + Test Fits
Working in existing facilities is a significant part of TOPA’s technology and R&D experience. Many projects begin with an existing building rather than a ground-up facility, so we evaluate how well that building can actually support the client’s operation—not just whether it has enough square footage.
Fixed conditions such as utility rooms, structural elements, access, power, water, and other infrastructure can significantly affect how usable a space really is. Through feasibility studies, programming, and test fits, TOPA helps clients understand whether their operation can function effectively within the building before they commit to a lease, purchase, or major design investment.
Fast-Moving + Technically Complex Projects
Technology projects can change quickly as equipment, infrastructure needs, and schedules evolve. TOPA coordinates the architectural, technical, and permitting requirements needed to keep projects moving.
Recent work includes laboratory and cooling tower projects for a major AI hardware manufacturer, supporting technically demanding technology and engineering environments.
